Maarifa

Maarifa, co-founded by Glenn Anderau and Daniel Waweru, organizes philosophical workshops and events in Kenya. Our first workshop took place in August 2025 at the University of Nairobi. Our next event takes place in February 2027 at the same venue. Our goal is to bring analytic philosophers to Kenya and to bridge the gap between analytic and African philosophy. The name Maarifa (which loosely translates to knowledge in Swahili) hints at the founders’ backgrounds in epistemology. However, our events are not exclusive to epistemologists and welcome a variety of research areas. We are especially interested in working with Kenyan scholars, regardless of their philosophical background or research interests.
